Not breathing, collapsed, bloated belly, or ate poison? Don't wait — go to your nearest ER. ASPCA Poison Control: (888) 426-4435 (fee may apply)
How it works

Everything inside Vet or Wait

An app you install on your phone in one tap — no app store needed. You set it up once, in about 10 minutes, while everything is fine. Then, on a bad night, it's three minutes from a clear answer and right there with you until morning.

Every urgency result comes from fixed escalation rules based on published veterinary guidance — the same answers always lead to the same outcome. AI only helps you describe what's happening in your own words.

Example

One night with Vet or Wait

Luna, a 6-year-old Lab mix, throws up just before midnight. Here's how the night goes.

  1. Luna throws up yellow foam — twice.

Her owner opens Vet or Wait. Red-flag screen: none of the 10 signs. 30 seconds.

  2. Urgency check, 3 minutes.

She's alert, drinking, gums pink, belly soft. Result: Watch at home, with a plan and the four signs that would mean “go now.” First re-check set for 1:40 AM.

  3. Diary.

A photo, the time, and a breathing count with the built-in 30-second counter. Logged in under a minute.

  4. Reminder: 20-second re-check.

Same as before, sleeping calmly. Plan continues; next re-check at 4:00 AM.

  5. …she had started retching with nothing coming up

The re-check escalates to ER now: nearest open clinic, directions, the call script, and a summary ready for the front desk.

  6. Luna eats a small breakfast.

The episode is closed and saved. If her vet asks later, the one-page summary is ready.

Illustrative example. Vet or Wait's answer depends on what you tell it, and red flags always mean the ER.

Inside the app

Five tools, one calm plan

Urgency check

Three minutes from panic to a clear answer

Simple questions in plain English — the kind a vet nurse would ask on the phone. Each answer decides the next question.

  • Describe it in your own words, or tap through the questions
  • “Not sure” is always an option — and it counts as “yes”
  • Guided checks you can do at home: gums, breathing rate, belly
  • The result explains why, so you can explain it to your family
Watch plan

“Keep an eye on it” — finally explained

  • Re-check reminders at intervals that fit the situation
  • A 20-second re-check: better, same, or worse
  • Automatic escalation the moment something changes
  • Night mode: dark screen, big buttons, one hand

Why not just ask a chatbot?

Rules, not guesses

A general AI chatbot

  • Can give a different answer if you ask a different way
  • Can sound confident when it shouldn't — and reassure you when it shouldn't
  • Doesn't know your dog, your nearest ER, or what happened an hour ago
  • Answers and forgets — no re-checks, no diary, no plan

Vet or Wait

  • Fixed urgency rules built on published veterinary guidance: same answers, same result, every time
  • Built to escalate: “not sure” counts as “yes,” red flags always mean the ER
  • Knows your dog's age, weight, breed and history
  • Stays with you: re-checks, diary, vet summary

Where we use AI: to understand what you describe in your own words and fill in the questions faster. It never makes the urgency decision.
